
Sovereign Threads is a handicraft organization that sells traditional handmade products made by the women who survived genocide in eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina. Traditional handicraft and carpet weaving not only provides an important form of communal occupational therapy, sisterhood and community, but also the sale of these products provides the sole source of income for women who have been left as the sole surviving breadwinner. The women work tirelessly, day after day, to weave a new future for themselves and their country. However with 1 out of every 2 Bosnians out of work their masterful weaving and, beautiful crafts have no market. Sovereign Threads is the only chance for these women to share their artistry, strength and vitality with the world. The sale of their carpets and handicraft to help them throw off the chains of victimization and step into their true roles as empowered, self-made advocates for peace and hope.
